The Gainsborough Model Railway Society opens its historic O-gauge railway for two afternoons over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Built in a former Victorian school, the extensive layout represents the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Leeds Central and is operated as a working railway rather than a static display.
Visitors can watch named expresses, suburban services and freight traffic move through a detailed sequence of stations and yards, drawn by locomotives including famous LNER types. The main railway room and café have ramp access, although some sections of the building require a large step. The society accepts cash only on open days and recommends arriving before the published last-entry time.
