Terms and Conditions

Check before you book or travel

Always confirm details directly with the organiser, venue or business before buying tickets, booking travel or accommodation, taking time off or setting out. Recheck shortly before departure. Dates, opening hours, venues, accessibility arrangements, exhibitors and prices can change, and events may be cancelled at short notice.

Much of this website’s information is submitted by users or obtained from third-party sources. We moderate submissions and make reasonable efforts to identify errors, but we cannot check every statement or continuously monitor every listing. Information may be incomplete, outdated or inaccurate, and misleading or fictitious events may occasionally evade checks. Publication, a screenshot, a featured position or a checked listing does not guarantee authenticity, accuracy or that an event will take place.

About the directory

The Model Line helps people discover model railway events, shops, clubs and community layouts. Unless we expressly say otherwise for a particular service, we are not the event organiser, venue, ticket seller, retailer or booking agent. Contact the relevant provider about bookings, cancellations, refunds, availability and access needs. Your contracts with those providers are separate from your use of this directory.

Links and advertisements do not amount to an endorsement or guarantee. Third-party websites have their own terms and privacy practices. Illustrative and generated images are decorative and do not establish what a particular event, product or venue looks like.

Submitting information and images

Only submit information you reasonably believe is accurate and have permission to share. Make clear when a detail is uncertain, and promptly tell us about material changes or cancellations. You must have the necessary rights and permissions for photographs, logos, video and other content you submit, including appropriate permission where identifiable people or private information are involved.

Do not submit fake events, misleading claims, spam, unlawful advertising, defamatory or abusive material, infringing content, malware or other people’s private information without a lawful basis. Do not impersonate an organiser, business or another person.

You retain ownership of your content. By submitting it, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, resize, format and display it to operate the directory and promote the relevant listing, including through The Model Line’s own social channels. This does not transfer ownership. Contact us to request removal; we will consider rights, legal obligations and reasonable technical limitations, including temporary backups and copies others have already shared.

AI-assisted images and videos

Submitted images and videos must be based on genuine photographs or footage of a real subject, such as an actual model, layout, locomotive or event. AI may be used to enhance that source material while keeping it a faithful representation of the real subject.

Acceptable examples include improving image quality, reducing noise, sharpening detail, adjusting lighting or colour, and adding a modest atmospheric effect such as a little steam to a locomotive. Edits must not materially misrepresent the subject or invent features, facilities, exhibits or circumstances that could mislead visitors.

Images or videos generated entirely from a text prompt, without genuine source photographs or footage, are not accepted. A prompt describing a real place, locomotive or layout does not by itself meet this requirement.

Where an AI edit adds or changes something beyond routine image-quality improvements, make this clear in the caption or submission notes. Keep the original source material: moderators may ask to see it to check that the submission meets these rules. You must have permission to use the source material, and all other content and safety rules still apply.

Prohibited and inappropriate content

The Model Line is a model railway community website. All uploads and submissions must be relevant to the hobby and suitable for a general audience. These rules apply to images, videos, text, profile pictures, advertisements, files and links, including AI-generated or altered material.

You must not upload, submit, display or link to:

  • Pornography, sexually explicit material, nudity or content promoting sexual services.
  • Any material involving the sexual abuse, exploitation or sexualisation of children, or non-consensual intimate imagery, including fabricated or digitally altered imagery.
  • Graphic violence, gore, cruelty, or content encouraging violence, terrorism, self-harm or other dangerous or unlawful activity.
  • Hate speech, discriminatory abuse, threats, harassment, bullying or material intended to humiliate or intimidate another person.
  • Scams, spam, unrelated advertising, malicious files, misleading links, stolen content or private information shared without a lawful basis.

Do not conceal prohibited material within an otherwise acceptable upload, link to it to evade these rules, or repeatedly resubmit material that has been rejected.

We may reject or remove material that breaches these rules and, where proportionate, restrict uploading, suspend an account or permanently close an account for serious or repeated breaches. Urgent removal or restriction may take place without advance notice to protect users. We may preserve relevant records and report suspected unlawful activity to the appropriate authorities where lawful and appropriate. We will explain moderation decisions where practical and lawful, and you may request a review by emailing contact@themodelline.co.uk.

To report inappropriate content, email the page address and a brief description to contact@themodelline.co.uk. Do not download, copy or attach suspected illegal imagery to your report. Moderation and these rules do not guarantee that every inappropriate item will be identified before it is seen.

Accounts, moderation and reports

Keep account details secure and tell us if you suspect unauthorised access. Do not use automated tools to overwhelm the service, create bulk accounts, manipulate listings or evade moderation. Submissions and updates may be checked before publication. We may request evidence, correct, decline or remove content, or restrict accounts where reasonably necessary to address abuse, rights complaints, security risks or breaches of these terms. We will explain the reason where practical and lawful; urgent action may be needed first. You can ask for a review by email.

To report a suspected fake event, cancellation, infringement or error, send the page address and supporting details to contact@themodelline.co.uk. Please identify urgent event-date issues in the subject. Reporting does not guarantee an immediate response, so confirm your own plans directly with the organiser.

Availability and responsibility

We aim to provide the website with reasonable care and skill. Access may be interrupted for maintenance, faults or circumstances outside our reasonable control. We cannot promise uninterrupted access or that all third-party information will be free of errors.

We do not take responsibility for an independent provider’s acts or changes merely because it appears in our directory. We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of a legal duty to you or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable. Whether travel, accommodation or other costs are recoverable depends on the circumstances and applicable law; these terms do not automatically exclude them where we are legally responsible.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your statutory consumer rights and remedies remain unaffected.

Purchases and paid services

Before purchasing a paid service from us, review the particular service description, price, duration and cancellation information shown for that purchase. These general directory terms do not replace those details or remove statutory cancellation, refund or other consumer rights. A directory listing alone is not an offer by us to supply the listed event, goods or services.

Website materials and personal information

The website’s branding, design and original materials belong to their respective owners. You may browse and share links for lawful purposes. Reusing protected material requires the owner’s permission or another lawful basis. Our Cookie Policy explains how cookies are handled. Contact us with questions or requests concerning your personal information.

Changes and applicable law

We may update these terms to reflect changes to the website or law and will show the revision date here. Changes apply prospectively and do not remove rights arising before the change or retrospectively alter an existing purchase. Material changes affecting accounts or paid services will be communicated where required.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of mandatory protections or the right to bring proceedings in the courts available to you under the law of your place of residence. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply where they can fairly do so.
