Hornby’s latest TT:120 announcement gives diesel-era modellers plenty to think about. Reported by Rails of Sheffield on 8 October 2026, the headline is a newly tooled Class 47.
The first three versions cover D1662 Isambard Kingdom Brunel in two-tone green, large-logo blue 47485 and Virgin-liveried 47845 County of Kent. I can see the appeal here: those choices open up distinctly different periods without changing the basic locomotive family.
The Class 37 range also grows, with green D6865, Colas Rail 37421 and Rail Operations Group 37800 Cassiopeia. Additional Mk1 and Mk2E/F coaches broaden the passenger stock options, while new buildings and scenic items give the range more of the everyday infrastructure a layout needs.
For me, the useful question is which complete train fits the period I want to model. A favourite locomotive is a tempting starting point, but matching coaching stock and a believable setting make it much more satisfying to run.
These are announcements and ordering opportunities, rather than a claim that the whole selection has arrived in shops. Check the individual model’s specification, price and delivery estimate before ordering.
