Signals and lighting can bring a railway to life, but arranging their control is a project in itself. Gaugemaster’s 7 October 2026 announcement introduces Viessmann’s Qdecoder accessory range for just these jobs.
The selection includes equipment for solenoid and motor-operated points, semaphore and colour-light signals, and lighting effects. Mini versions cater for tighter spaces, while deLuxe models use plug-in connections. The correct decoder depends on what it will actually operate.
Starter packages combine a programmer, power supply, USB connection and Qrail installation software with two compatible decoders. A separate programmer and LED test strip are also listed. Gaugemaster’s advertised starter prices run from £295 to £335, with the standalone programmer at £170; these are retailer prices checked on 8 October.
The products were marked for pre-order, so this is a range introduction rather than an in-stock report.
I would start with a list of the accessories on my layout and the way I want each to behave. Matching that list against the decoder documentation is more useful than buying by output count alone. We have not tested these units, and compatibility should be established for your particular equipment before purchase.
