Accurascale IRM brings the “Baby Metrovick” to OO gauge

Ten C201 Class versions are planned across CIÉ and Northern Ireland Railways liveries, with prices from £199 and delivery provisionally envisaged during 2028.

Accurascale Irish Railway Models has announced an OO-gauge C201 Class, bringing the compact Metropolitan-Vickers diesels known as “Baby Metrovicks” to its range.

Revealed on 24 October, the first run comprises ten versions spanning original and rebuilt locomotives, with CIÉ liveries and Northern Ireland Railways’ all-blue 105 among the choices. A preserved C231 edition will support the Irish Traction Group’s restoration work.

Prices are £199 for DC/DCC-ready models and £299 with factory-fitted DCC sound. Features include a die-cast chassis, five-pole motor, all-wheel drive and pickup, and a comprehensive lighting package. Sound versions add twin speakers and a sensor-triggered flange-squeal effect.

Tooling is complete and testing is underway. Accurascale envisages delivery during 2028, but says a firmer timetable will follow later in development.

This is an appealing announcement for Irish-outline enthusiasts, with the different identities offering opportunities to build a model around a particular place and period. The Northern Irish version also gives the project a clear UK connection.
