Graham Farish announced a newly tooled N-gauge Class 37 range on 5 August, led by the refurbished Class 37/7 heavy freight locomotives. Bachmann’s autumn announcement paired the diesel project with new wagons across N and OO, giving freight modellers several developments to follow.

The manufacturer said the Class 37/7 would bring this subclass to ready-to-run N gauge for the first time. Cab lighting and optional factory-fitted sound are among the features announced. The release is therefore more than a change of numbers or liveries on an existing model.

Also revealed were N-gauge 24.5-ton mineral wagons covering diagrams 1/115 and 1/118, with different side-door arrangements. In OO, Bachmann Branchline announced MLA bogie box wagons representing vehicles built for GBRf, Network Rail and EWS.

For layout planning, the useful distinction is between the periods and traffic represented by these separate projects. The mineral wagons and modern bogie boxes should not be treated as one interchangeable freight fleet. Individual specifications and release information should be checked against the manufacturer’s listings.
