A small wagon with a strong local identity is the latest project from the Newport, South Wales branch of the N Gauge Society. Its Newport Docks & Railway No. 328 commission is available for general sale at £20 plus postage, according to a World of Railways report published on 23 September 2026.
This is the group’s first wagon offered to the wider public. Sales are intended to help fund further models connected with the area’s railway history.
Local history in miniature
The subject recalls Newport’s dock railway and the wagon once displayed on the city’s riverfront. No. 328 stood there for 16 years before deteriorating and being scrapped in 2012, the report explains.
For a South Wales layout, a locally lettered wagon can help establish a sense of place more effectively than another generic scenic detail. It is also an enjoyable starting point for research: study period photographs and traffic patterns before deciding exactly where and when to run it.
How to enquire
The original announcement includes the group treasurer’s ordering contact. Ask the group about current availability and the total cost including postage. The report does not specify the production quantity or donor model, so there is no basis here for a claim about rarity or tooling.
